Village of Babylon Historical & Preservation Society and Babylon Beautification Society to Host America 250 Community Celebration

BABYLON, NY — The Village of Babylon Historical & Preservation Society and the Babylon Beautification Society invite the public to join them on Saturday, July 11, 2026, for a special community celebration as part of the national America 250 commemoration marking the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The event will feature the dedication of a commemorative Red Oak tree and bronze plaque at Argyle Square, creating a lasting tribute to this historic milestone and future generations of Village of Babylon residents.

The project is part of Suffolk County’s broader America 250 initiative, recognizing the County’s important connection to America’s colonial and Revolutionary War history and encouraging communities throughout the region to commemorate this historic anniversary.

“Babylon loves its history and its celebrations. It is exciting to see our community come together to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The dedication of this tree symbolizes our commitment to both our Village and our country. Babylon Village—where history is made,” said Judy Skillen, President of the Village of Babylon Historical & Preservation Society.

“History is often associated with the great events and historic places that shaped our nation, but it is also reflected in the traditions, events, and experiences that bring communities together,” said Frank Petruzzo, President of the Babylon Beautification Society. “We are proud to create a lasting tribute that celebrates both this historic milestone and the Village of Babylon.”

“Suffolk County played an important role in our nation’s early history, and our Suffolk250 campaign as well as the America250 initiative provide an opportunity for communities across the County to celebrate our legacy,” said Suffolk County Legislator RJ Renna. “I am proud to support local initiatives such as the celebration hosted by the Village of Babylon Historical & Preservation Society and Babylon Beautification Society to help residents connect with our shared history and commemorate this historic anniversary through patriotic events and displays.”

“One of the things that makes the Village of Babylon special is the willingness of organizations, businesses, and local leaders to work together for the benefit of the community,” said Village Trustee Jeff Szabo. “This project is a wonderful example of that spirit of partnership in action.”

The celebration will include remarks, community reflections, a tree and plaque dedication ceremony, complimentary refreshments, and America 250 commemorative giveaways for attendees.

The commemorative tree and plaque will be located at Argyle Square, 175 West Main Street, on the front lawn adjacent to Village Hall. The project is being made possible through a partnership among the Village of Babylon Historical & Preservation Society, the Babylon Beautification Society, Suffolk County, and Garvey Properties, Ltd.
